Nirvana’s Nevermind: The Beginning of The End

Friday, March 5th, 2010

September 24, 1991 was a day that most couldn’t pinpoint unless they looked online, but it would change the entire music industry for seemingly the last time because never again would a band have such a defining impact on the whole world. It was the day the Nirvana released “Nevermind”, and while the majority of [...]

The Who’s Roger Daltrey Wants to Sing the Blues with Jimmy Page

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

File this under “Things That Will Likely Never, Ever Happen but Would Be Kinda Awesome If They Did”: Roger Daltrey and Jimmy Page doing a blues album together. Maybe I’m being too negative. Maybe it will happen. It will if Roger Daltrey has his way about it; the front man for The Who has put [...]

Stuff We Like: Wayne Coyne’s Bathroom

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

You know how some celebrities are so far beyond the normal box that thinking about them doing everyday things in everyday environments seems kinda wrong? Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne has always been like that for me. Like, imagining him waking up in a normal house and walking down his normal hall and taking a normal [...]

Do you love a good remake or does the thought of a copycat make you cringe? Peter Gabriel Gets His Indie On, New LP Scratch My Back

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Oh, I really should apologize to Peter Gabriel. I had pretty much written him off. I thought he was done, at least in the current-pop-culture-relevancy context. I don’t mean to downplay the immense contributions he’s made over the years because, really, kudos to him, man. I just thought he was, ya know, done. But then [...]

Flying High With Owl City

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

If there’s one musical act that could embody the modern fairytale of the no-name artist-turned-internet-sensation-turned-major-label-golden-child, it would have to be Owl City. The synth-pop project of Minnesota native Adam Young, Owl City went sounds in a Midwestern basement to a MySpace phenomenon seemingly overnight; teenage girls (and okay, boys too) were flocking…and the record industry [...]

Amazing Cover Bands: Wu Tang Vs The Beatles

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Wu Tang Clan and the Beatles: do either demographic of listeners even crossover? I suppose they do, it’s hard for any type of person to not be in some way affected by the Beatles’ staggering catalog of music that they pieced together in a few short years. In Tom Caruna, the Brighton, England producer who put together this mashup at the tender age of 28 believes there’s a lot of crossover. “Enter the Magical Mystery Chambers” is his 27-song mashup that features such titles as “Save Me Dear” or “Forget Me Not”. Each song features several samples from bands that either covered Beatles songs or demos from the band themselves. The instrumentals and the album are available at his website http://teasearecords.net/ since early January.

Interpol, PJ Harvey Sign On for Haiti Benefit Auction

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

After this month’s earthquake catastrophe in Haiti, celebrities having been going all “We Are the World” like crazy. And that’s not to make light of the disaster, nor to dismiss the outpouring of generosity from Hollywood; the world would probably benefit if those who were flush with good fortune and the power to sway the [...]
